John Younger ; flies from his book River angling for Salmon and trout. 1864.
 
 
No.1 :
 
Tail : A tuft of yellow floss or fine worsted wool.
Butt : A little red, green or deep orange twisted close around the root of the tail tuft.
Body : Black cow hair or other fur.( picked out)
Ribs : Gold twist thread.
Throat : A few turns of dark orange, or rather red. (Fur ? )
Wings : A grey or bright mottled turkey feather or Brown Mallard.
 
 
No. 2 :

Body : Black cow hair or other fur.( picked out)
Ribs : Gold twist thread.
Throat : A few turns of dark orange, or rather red. (Fur ? )
Wings : A dark brown feather with a little white on the top.
 
No. 3 :

Ribs : Gold twist thread.
Throat : A few turns of dark orange, or rather red. (Fur ? )
Wings : A white feather which have a light buff or yellowish tinge.
 
No. 4 :
 
Body : A dun colour, Fox, Mohair or other fur. (picked out as hackle.)
Ribs : Gold thread.
Wings : A dun colour. The prober dun olour is not easy to discribe; It seems to patake of brown and white, a shade
of red and yellow with the slightest tinge of silvery grey and a yellow tail tuft up with a speck of red.
 
 
No. 5 :
 
Body : Dark grey Hre's fur, mixed with the least quantity of bright red or deep orange mohair or rather fine pigswool
(if pigswool can be got with a tuft of yellow) over which, at the insertion of such tail or tuft, give a turn or two
round of red worsted mohair or pigswool.
Ribs : Fine gold twist
Hackle : A short bristled hackle. (not prferred by the author).
Wings : The bright mottled feather of a Drake.
 
 
No. 6 : Also called the Maule fly.
 
 
Tail : A tuft of yellow or light orange.
Butt : A little red, green or deep orange twisted close around the root of the tail tuft.
Body : Sky blue, fine wool.
Ribs : Small pallid tinsel.
Hackle : A peculiar hackle; black from the root up aloung the middle stem to fully half the length, then running
into red out to the top.
Throat : A few turns of dark orange, or rather red. (Fur ? )
